Led by Dr Shane Powell, the aim of this project (2.1.005) was to develop a low-cost electronic nose (e-Nose) for detecting changes in soil biological activity. Led by Dr Murray Hart (NSW DPIRD), the overall purpose of the project was to achieve reliable and profitable crop productivity in soils with multiple constraints and to close the gap between farm production and the rainfall-limited crop yield potential in major soil types in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia. The Visualising Australasia’s Soils (VAS) project is building a web-based portal that brings public and private soil data into one place, in a standardised format. Phase 2 (project 2.3.002) delivered major improvements to VAS, including new data input templates, alignment with international standards, better data displays, and education resources for users.
