VIDEOS: Improving decision support systems
| Posted Aug 11,2023Soil CRC’s Improving decision support systems project wrapped up in 2022, helping address soil constraints by improving the tools growers, agronomists and researchers use to inform their decision-making.
This project tackled the issue that most computer simulation models and decision support systems (DSS) do not allow for complex soil constraints in their modelling.
The aim was to improve existing and widely used DSS by developing modules to model soil constraints and hence, increase the reliability of predictions that can be used in the paddock.
Project leader Associate Professor Keith Pembleton and researcher Dr Chloe Lai, both from the University of Southern Queensland in Toowoomba, explain our DSS improvements in the following videos:
- Modelling fallow weeds in APSIM FallowARM
- Initialising labile Phosphorous in APSIM LinkP
- Gypsy Calculator for modelling sodic soil amelioration
- Modelling Nitrogen volatilisation in APSIM
- Modelling water-repellent soils in APSIM
Dr Lai is building on this research with her new Soil CRC project, Optimising soil constraint management through computer-based learning and modelling.
