Sandy soils organic amendment trials

| Posted Feb 03,2022

The New amendments to sandy soils project is adding different organic amendments to sandy soils at a trial site in Western Australia.

Sandy soils lack clay and other organic matter, which means they can’t hold water and productivity is often low. So at a basic level, adding clay will improve the productivity of sandy soils.

Below are the six different soil amendments that are being trialled under four different tillage systems.

This project is led by Professor Richard Bell from Murdoch University, with collaboration from West Midlands Group, Federation University, AORA and PIRSA.
