Cooperative Research Centre for High Performance Soils

This project provided information to NSW land managers about soil carbon management to help them make evidence-based decisions to support carbon farming.

The objectives were to:

  • Develop materials to inform land managers about soil carbon, including tools and resources from trusted sources to support knowledge and decision making
  • Describe land eligibility and suitability while undertaking new activities as described in the ACCU scheme soil carbon method
  • Leverage the expertise and industry standing of soil advisory and grower groups to help farmers identify land that is likely to see soil carbon increase.

This was achieved with support from the Soil CRC and their participants, through the delivery of seven webinars and the development of seven supporting fact sheets.

The first two webinars focused on soil data access and interpretation and were hosted by the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development. Soil CRC grower group participants hosted the remaining webinars with a focus on region-specific opportunities and practices for soil carbon management relevant to the local farming systems and environment.

The project was proudly supported by NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water through the Primary Industries Productivity and Abatement Program (PIPAP).
