Congratulations to Soil CRC researcher Laureate Professor Ravi Naidu (University of Newcastle and crcCARE) who was announced as the winner of the Glinka World Soil Prize 2023 at the FAO World Soil Day Event held in Rome on 5 December.

The prize honours distinguished individuals or organisations that promote sustainable soil management and the protection of soil resources, which have a direct impact on people’s wellbeing. It is one of the highest honours that can be given in soil science.

Professor Naidu is a global leader in contamination studies and has made monumental contributions within research and beyond. With his team at the University of Newcastle and crcCARE, Professor Naidu’s research has significantly contributed to the scientific community’s understanding of soil science and management, particularly in the areas of nutrient cycling, soil formation, and soils-to-crop and soils-to-groundwater as exposure pathways for contaminants.

Professor Naidu currently leads a Soil CRC project that is evaluating the agronomic benefits of biosolids biochar. He also led the application that saw the Soil CRC being successfully funded in 2017.
