Soil CRC researchers Dr Lukas Van Zwieten and Dr Shihab Uddin (NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development) discussed how integrated, practical solutions can help overcome these challenges. Drawing on recent multi-site field trials (NSW and Qld), they shared evidence-based strategies that improve soil function, enhance water use, and deliver measurable yield gains – particularly in tough seasons. Led by Dr Murray Hart (NSW DPIRD), the overall purpose of the project was to achieve reliable and profitable crop productivity in soils with multiple constraints and to close the gap between farm production and the rainfall-limited crop yield potential in major soil types in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia.
